Second Grade Mathematics
Number and Operations in Base Ten 2.NBT
Standard 5: Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction. (Note: This lesson is focussing on subtraction.)
Objective
The specific objective for this lesson is that students will understand and show mastery of 2-digit subtraction with regrouping and be able to explain the process to others.
Mastery will be demonstrated through:
Grade Level
The expected grade level for this topic is second grade but will include high first graders up to fourth grade.
Lesson Timeline
It is best that the student progresses through these lessons and activities at his or her own pace since the intent is for the student to develop mastery in subtraction with regrouping before he or she moves on to the next math topic. It is expected that these lessons will take two to five days depending on the ability of the student and time available to devote to the material.
Navigation
Start with the Getting Started Main Tab. Then move on to the three subtopics in order. Continue to each main header first for an introduction to each section before moving on to the subtopics.
Accessibility
The aim of these lesson is to make it accessible to all students by providing visual and audio explanations on each page. The lessons are intended to meet the needs of a variety of learning types by using audio, video, manipulatives, games, and music. Parents should feel free to help their child use the computer, keyboard, mouse, printer, and audio/visual tools as needed. Don't hesitate to contact me if you feel your student needs assignment modifications. In addition, if your student needs help with accessibility issues, or if you have questions about any part of the lessons, please feel free to contact me at:

About Mrs. Byzewski
For the last 4 years I have been a Title 1 reading and math teacher for a company called Catapult Learning that provides services to Milwaukee area choice schools. After graduating from UW-Milwaukee with an Elementary Education degree, I taught in the Milwaukee Public Schools for six years. Then I stayed home to raise a family, home-school my children, and do daycare out of my home. My husband and I have been married for 23 years. We have two daughters ages 17 and 15. I am currently in the MET program at Boise State with the goal to move into the fields of online teaching and instructional design.
